The editorial and scientific teams, supervised by investigative journalist and UN Volunteer Ambassador for Humanitarianism, Alexandros Tanaskidis-Lambousnakis, accredited European Trainer for Combating Hate Speech, gradually present a quiver of symbols that codified the hitherto known words of expression of intolerance of the influence and exercise groups or inciting radicalization of the most extreme communities of a global society.

Unfortunately, these symbols are not detected by the algorithmic filters of even the largest social networks, so they leak and spread hate speech in an unspoken way. The project is offered as a social responsibility and legacy to the journalistic space and public discourse.

More than 500 online symbols have flooded social media and while at first glance they seem innocent and as a form of art – many times – at the same time they send hateful messages to a multitude of targeted communities that have been mapped and categorized within the platform.

Vulnerable groups receive a modern form of #bullying through symbols, slogans, numbered codes, runes, abbreviations, and even fake emojis that are found every day in a multitude of publications and spread at dizzying speeds, under the cloak of a generalized “freedom” of speech.

Topics:
Human Rights
Social gender, sexuality, LGBTI+
Freedom of expression
Refugee – immigrant
Anti-African hate speech, anti-Semitism
The racist and fascist ideal
Nazi and extreme approaches
Russian-Ukrainian war
Homelessness, bullying, fat shaming, anthropophobia
Ku-Klux-Klan Ancestry, Aryan Race, White Supremacy
Coronavirus Misinformation, Anti-Covid Conspiracy Theory

and so many other forms that intolerance is reborn from their ashes, are the subject of ongoing research on the hate2hate.eu platform.

Because we’re here with the intention to “hate to hate” and thus reappropriate “hate” as a weapon against hate itself and create the basis for healthy information, and communication.
